Poor Canadians?

The Editor
Winnipeg Free Press

Dear sir:
“The price of food is rising!”  What is not rising in price?   We Canadians have it really tough! Is this true?

What proportion of income do Canadians use to buy food?  How does that compare with other countries?  Do those other countries have the quality and variety of food that we have?

The truth is we Canadians are among the most privileged and well fed populations in the world and all we do is complain and our political so-called leaders inflame discontent. Perhaps if we we learned to shop in the produce isle and learned to cook we would recognize that we are among the luckiest people on the globe.

Axe the tax” … and exacerbate the disparities in Canadian society?  No!  Perhaps there should be a 5% tax on our purchases of food so the government can provide food to those Canadians less fortunate.

The right-wing philosophy of “Me, me, me”  is undermining our caring society and has absolutely no solutions to the problems we face.
